Day One - 04.05.17
Some background is probably helpful, I'm a former guitar player, recently bitten by the axe bug again, and as a result scored an awesome pawn shop Epiphone SG 400. $140 off the wall, a little bit of solder, new pots, a new toggle and the thing sings. Screeches is probably a better description, but it has aspirations.
Because bringing it back to life was so much fun (with much help from my friends on the facebook group Awesome Cheap Guitars), I decided to try another. And because keeping all the joy to myself seems selfish, I hope to keep an almost daily record of my progress: The good, the bad, the naughty bits. I've never blogged before, not sure who, if any, will read this, so it will be fast and loose. Spelling counts, grammar not so much.
So, here we go...
Today my beat-to-snot 2006 Schecter Omen 6 eBay purchase arrived. It looks exactly as promised, well worn. Good news is all electronics work, the neck is straight, frets in good shape. Strings are rusty, but still sounds damn good.
The plan is to pull this apart and rebuild from the ground up. Strip and refinish the body, all new electronics, new hardware, new pups. Already have my eye on a Duncan Nazgul and Sentient set. Subject to change, pun intended. Not sure of what the body is made of, once the abused electric blue goop is gone I will start with the body finish plans.
Once it's gone.
